Former Doctor Charged with Assault Charges Involving Thirty-Eight Patients

Prosecutors have announced that a ex- physician has been charged with committing sexual assaults against thirty-eight victims who were patients.

Details of the Serious Allegations

Nathaniel Spencer from Birmingham faces allegations of numerous sexual offences – comprising acts against children younger than 13 – spanning the period from 2017 to 2021.

One senior CPS official said, “Legal teams have worked at length to assist a thorough and intricate investigation, carefully reviewing the available evidence to establish that there is sufficient evidence to bring the case to trial and that it is in the interest of justice.”

The Investigation

These allegations come after what investigators described as a “detailed inquiry” into alleged sexual offences at two hospitals: the Royal Stoke university hospital and Russells Hall hospital.

The defendant is due to appear at the local magistrates' court on 20 January.

Breakdown of Offences

Prosecutors outline the forty-five sexual offences comprise:

  • Fifteen counts of assault.
  • 17 counts of penetrative assault.
  • 9 counts of sexual assault of a child under 13.
  • Three counts of penetrative assault on a child under thirteen.
  • One count of attempting to assault by penetration.
